The jailbreak community is brilliant at coming up with apps that would never see the light of day if they had to go through Apple’s App Store, and one such app is YoutubeToMP3.
Available on the Cydia jailbreak store and recently updated to version 2.1, YoutubeToMP3 does exactly what it says on the tin. Once installed, users simply feed a YouTube video web address into the app and watch it work its magic. Before too long, YoutubeToMP3 will have gone through the requested video and pulled its audio into a handy-dandy MP3 file, perfect for emailing or listening to at your leisure. Great for all those ‘unique’ songs found on Google’s social video site.
Once downloaded and converted, MP3s can be renamed to something a little more recognizable and then played back in-app. As mentioned earlier, there’s also the option to email the file too.
YoutubeToMP3 2.1 now supports iOS multitasking for playing audio while running in the background, while conversion can also continue while multitasking.
It may not be an app that many will use on a regular basis, but if you’re iPhone is jailbroken then YoutubeToMP3 is a free app that’s worth having in your arsenal for that one time you may need it.
YoutubeToMP3 can be downloaded from Cydia under BigBoss repository.
You will, of course, need to have a jailbroken iPhone or iPod touch to install it. Follow our step by step guide posted here to jailbreak your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch with Redsn0w on iOS 4.2.1 (or untethered with GreenPois0n RC5), or with Limera1n on iOS 4.1, or with PwnageTool on iOS 4.3 if you haven’t already.
