Your iPhone Will Soon Stop Calling US President Trump A Racist

If you’ve found that your iPhone can’t help but call the United States president a racist, you might be pleased to learn that Apple is working to stop that from happening.

The issue cropped up when multiple iPhone owners noticed that a pronunciation processing problem caused the word “Trump” to be transposed with the word ‘racist’ when using the dictation feature in the Messages app.

Interestingly, MacRumors reports that the issue also appears to occur in reverse as well — “racist” sometimes appeared to be heard as “Trump.”

Speaking the word racist with dictation doesn’t always show “Trump” first, though it did show up more often than other words in our testing. We also saw “Rhett” and “Rouch” appear before the ‌iPhone‌ corrects to racist.

Videos showing the bug in action have, understandably, spread like wildfire on social networks but an Apple spokesperson reportedly told The New York Times that the problem was due to an overlap in the phonetics used when speaking the two words. It’s unknown how long the issue has been around, but Apple has said that it is currently working on a fix.

It also hasn’t been confirmed how long we can expect this to take to fix, or if a software update will be needed. However, it’s another black eye for Apple following recent issues surrounding its Apple Intelligence features. Those features have made a hash of summarizing notifications in disturbing ways of late, causing Apple to make changes there, too.
