Have you noticed how some of the best stuff over at the iTunes App Store appears to be almost invariably paid? Not saying that good stuff doesn’t exist for free, but generally, chances are high that the well-polished, feature rich app that caught your heart will end up setting you back by a buck or two. The good thing, however, is the fact that you don’t have to always pay for the good stuff. In the App Store, apps keep going free from time to time – be it courtesy of the developers or other third parties – and should you be lucky enough to find those deals, you might end up saving a few hard-earned dollars. The even better news is, we keep hunting such apps gone free deals for you, and here are our finds for today.
UVmeter ($0.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)
Ultraviolet radiation can be quite damaging to your skin, and almost all of us invariably know that. What we might not know is the radiation levels in our current location. That’s exactly what this app tells you, along with useful tips on recommended protection.

Scanner with OCR ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)
A pocket scanner with optical character recognition, which basically allows you to take pictures of text through your iPhone/iPad’s camera and have it converted to selectable text in the device. The app supports 32 different languages, and packs a neat interface.

PhotosPro ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)
PhotosPro is the iOS Photos app reinvented, and for good. The app is basically an elegant viewer for all your photos with easy sharing and visual storytelling. You can create entire storybooks on the move and share them easily across various platforms.

Work Time ($1.99 – FREE / iPhone)
This app is an elegant desktop calendar that not only gives you the current date and time, but also your daily schedule, upcoming event notifications, weather information and forecast etc. It’s extremely useful for those put their phone on a docking station, but will find equal love from other users as well.

Paint FX: Photo Effects Editor ($2.99 – FREE / iPhone and iPad)
One of the most feature-laden photo editors on the App Store, Paint FX packs a lot of separate apps into one. The interface is iOS 7-ish, and the app offers easy to use gestures to get the job done. Check it out while it’s free.
