Although at this stage, some three-and-a-half weeks prior to the alleged announcement of the low-cost iPhone 5C, we haven’t seen a working version of the device in action, the outer shell has been leaked through numerous outlets, and today, a hands-on comparing the current available components with the iPhone 5 has emerged, once again. Sure, we’re expecting the iPhone 5’s successor to be revealed on that same September 10th date, but with the budget device also being new to market, prospective iPhone owners will be undoubtedly weighing up their options, and thanks to this video, we can take an early look at how the iPhone 5C stands up to the current flagship.
One of the key differences, as you’ll have seen many times before, is that the rear housing of the cheaper handset is formed of shiny polycarbonate, similar to the finish we’ve seen with the likes of the iPhone 3GS. Although it doesn’t quite feel as high-end to the touch, it’s still perfectly acceptable to most, and with a variety of color configurations available to iPhone 5S buyers, the appeal factor will undoubtedly still be there.
Apple always looks to ensure its products look good, and while the iPhone 5S – with an iPhone 5-esque design and the supposed introduction of a champagne color option – will still reign supreme in the aesthetics department, there’s no doubt that the iPhone 5C falls well within Apple’s high standards of design.
In the video below, the iPhone 5C is compared with the iPhone 5, and while it’s slightly thicker than the current darling of the Cupertino’s expanding roster, it doesn’t give off any air of inferiority. It’s still thin, boasts a sizeable 4-inch display, and despite the fact that specs have been very much at a premium regarding the budget model, we’d expect a fairly strong interior for a handset capable of running iOS 7 without flaw.
There have been murmurings recently that the iPhone 5C may do away with Siri, yet while many companies – particularly in the automotive industry – have been readily integrating Apple’s voice-recognition service into its products, the consumer market doesn’t seem particularly floored by a feature that first rose to prominence with the iPhone 4S. As such, whether Apple decides to implement Siri or not, I can see the iPhone 5C being a major hit when it does hit the market alongside the iPhone 5S.
Check the video, which also features some antiquated iPhone handsets for good measure, and decide for yourself whether you think the iPhone 5C has you sold:
