As much as the iPad and iPadOS have come on leaps and bounds in recent years, there is always going to be one big problem thrown at it when people suggest it could be a MacBook Pro replacement. The lack of Xcode means that the idea of developing apps on an iPad is a non-starter, but that might be about to change.
At least, that’s if you believe what newly-minted leaker Jon Prosser has to say.
The man behind the YouTube channel Front Page Tech has recently been on the money about the iPhone SE launch and now he’s been at it again. This time he took to Twitter to say that Xcode is “present on iOS / iPad OS 14”.
If that’s indeed the case this could be a big, big deal. With the iPad Pro gaining the Magic Keyboard this week and trackpads now treated as first class citizens in iPadOS, could it be time to bring Xcode to the platform as well?
Maybe, but let’s throw another point into the mix – what about ARM Macs?
Some have suggested that the iPad Pro is a stealth development machine that would allow developers to build Mac apps for ARM machines because, of course, it runs an ARM processor. For that to happen they’d need Xcode.
As Steve Jobs once famously said, “are you getting it?”
We think we might be, Steve.
