The Xbox One will be hitting stores late next week, and although we’ve been dealt a deluge of information from both official and unofficial channels already, new revelations are being made on an almost hourly basis. In the latest, the guys over at NeoGAF have been looking into game install size and discovered that some titles will command up to 43GB of storage space, which is a colossal amount of real estate by anybody’s standards.
Of course, with each title worked to comply with the powerful hardware of Microsoft’s next-gen console, it stands to reason that a substantial amount of storage space will be required, but as NeoGAF has discovered, looking at the numbers written down brings an element of reality to proceedings.
NeoGAF‘s @midnightswami, who currently has Microsoft’s upcoming console at his disposal, has been installing titles in order to play, review, and merely get a feel for the Xbox One. On his journey, he has been logging how much of the HDD is required for each of the games he’s been testing out, and while some, such as Xbox Fitness, only require a measly 264MB of space, the likes of NBA 2K14, which, granted, is graphically-intensive, will take up a whopping 43GB of space.
Call Of Duty: Ghosts, which will no doubt sell in high numbers as consumers overlook the PlayStation 3 / Xbox 360 launch last week in anticipation for the upgraded hardware, will need 39GB of your Xbox One’s space, and so if you were planning on stocking up on other content besides just games, you may need to reconsider how you’re going to go about it.
Other big eaters include Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (20GB), Battlefield 4 (33GB), Ryse: Son of Rome (34GB) and Forza Motorsport 5 – one of the console’s flagship titles, which will take up 31GB. Some of the family titles also take up quite a significant amount of your Xbox One’s storage capacity, including Zumba: World Party (24GB) and Just Dance 2014, which will need 22GB when fully installed.
Some of the more economical titles tried out by @midnightswami thus far include Killer Instinct (3.4GB), NBA Live 14 (9GB) Powerstar Golf (3.9GB), Skylanders: Swap Force (15GB) and Zoo Tycoon at 2.6GB.
The complete list is as follows:
- Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag – 20GB
- Battlefield 4 – 33GB
- Call of Duty: Ghosts – 39GB
- Crimson Dragon – 6.9GB
- Dead Rising 3 – 19GB

So there you have it, folks. These new games are going to require quite a bit of your Xbox One’s storage in order to be fully installed, and although we don’t have the corresponding PS4 figures to hand, expect those to be very similar.
