Xbox One: Fully DLNA Compatible, Can Play Regular CDs In Addition To Blu-ray

Xbox One

The official launch date of the Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One is fast approaching and we are starting to get to that point where undecided consumers will be pulling together all of the resources possible to decide which hardware to opt for. Sony has recently published a list of things the PlayStation 4 can and cannot do and Microsoft has now followed that pattern by confirming that the Xbox One will be capable of not only playing back audio CDs, but will also be DLNA compatible on launch.

Sony may have convinced a number of PlayStation fans to look towards the Xbox One when they revealed that the fourth-generation PlayStation console won’t offer CD playback functionality. Sony also confirmed rumors that the soon to be released console won’t be DLNA compatible and therefore won’t accept streaming content through that medium. The announcement is kind of ironic considering Sony actually established the DLNA organization a decade ago.

If anyone was sitting on the console fence and needed a reason to swing toward the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 then it looks like Microsoft may have captured that sale. The Redmond based company has issued an official statement that confirms their hardware will ship with the ability to play audio CDs. The statement also goes a little further by confirming that the media focused console is DLNA compatible, although it is still being put through the process of being DLNA certified. Media hungry console owners can rest assured that the Xbox One will indeed stream content through compatible devices.

Any prospective owner of the Xbox One should be aware that Microsoft won’t be allowing those users to directly import their own MP3 music files onto the device. The console however will act as a Play To device and accept music streaming from compatible sources such as computers running various versions of Windows and Windows Phone mobile devices. Sony’s PlayStation 4 is set for a November 15th launch in the United States with the Xbox One expected to land later in the month.

With small revelations slowly making their way towards potential buyers, it’s now up to the consumer to decide which console they should go for. So, what are you going to buy? The mighty PS4 or the Xbox One?
