The Xbox One may have arrived late on in the day compared to the February launch of the PlayStation 4, but Microsoft seems determined to make up for lost time. Towards the end of last week, we saw Major Nelson run a special unboxing of the forthcoming console for fans to drool over, and with a short clip focused on the controller also arriving on the same day, the Redmond company has now come through with a feature-length video tour of the new game pad.
Of the new products associated with the Xbox One, the controller is perhaps one of the least exciting, but that hasn’t stopped fans from celebrating an accessory that retains the old look and feel whilst also bringing enhanced functionality to the table. After all, when it comes to consoles, the playability of the games has to be the most important thing, even if it was widely felt that Microsoft’s launch focused on the Xbox One’s stripes as an all-round entertainment system.
The new clip runs for a full seven minutes, and proceeds to illustrate millimeter by millimeter coverage of the Xbox One’s controller. Zulfi Alam, who is the general manager of the Xbox accessories group, talks to Major Nelson about the ins and outs of the new design, and whether you’re an ardent geek concerned with feedback motors or simply like the new look, no stone is left unturned in this clip.
With a tasty line-up of launch titles confirmed already, it’s going to be intriguing to see whether the Xbox One can continue the dominance of the Xbox 360, which outsold the PlayStation 3 by a considerable margin. For a long time, Microsoft appeared to be making a good job of alienating long-time fans with its stingy used games policies and ambiguous region stipulations. But with the controversies now having been swept under the carpet, gamers, commentators and fans can now focus their attentions on the important stuff — the games, graphics and the inevitable battle with the Sony PlayStation 4.
So, check out the video of the Xbox One controller below, and if you’re looking forward to the console as much as we are here at Redmond Pie, be sure to stay tuned to our around-the-clock coverage!
