Xbox Cloud Gaming Will Finally Let You Stream Your Own Games

Users of Microsoft’s Xbox Cloud Gaming feature have long enjoyed being able to play their games on non-Xbox hardware thanks to the magic of the internet and server-based hardware, but there has always been a catch — only some Game Pass games have been available to play.

That is, finally, about to change. According to a new report, the wider Xbox game library will be playable soon.

The change will kick in this November, we’re told, and Xbox president Sarah Bond hinted as much this week. In a post on the X social network, Bond said that “starting in November, players will be able to play and purchase Xbox games directly from the Xbox App on Android.”

The move will of course also bring the same games to other cloud-based gamers using non-Android devices, too, although that wasn’t mentioned in the post.

According to a report by The Verge, Microsoft has plans to start testing the new library-wide streaming feature, dubbed Project Lapland, soon. The feature will roll out to Xbox Insiders in November, while the wider Xbox gaming community will get in on the action later with more games also set to be added.

With cloud gaming becoming more and more viable thanks to bigger libraries and ever-faster internet connections, the need to buy Xbox hardware is now less of a barrier for gamers than ever before. That’s good news for game developers and, most importantly, gamers.
