The jailbreak-only theming app WinterBoard, which hadn’t seen an update since way back in January of this year, has finally been bumped to version 0.9.3916, and with this update, support for the latest iOS 8.x.x firmware versions has also arrived. The full run-down of new features, as well as the details on how you can avail the new version of WinterBoard, can be seen below.
Saurik, the guy behind WinterBoard, also just happens to be the author of Cydia, and with so many adjustments having been made to the famed jailbreak hub and its various dependencies since Pangu first hit the scene, he and his development team have scarcely had the opportunity to afford WinterBoard the major attention it has long required.
Just a few days ago, it emerged that disabling SummerBoard Mode served as a quick fix for those who couldn’t get WinterBoard to function on iOS 8, but now, the update themers have been waiting on has just hit Cydia.
In something of an early Thanksgiving gift, WinterBoard 0.9.3916 adds a number of fixes and performance enhancements for those running iOS 6, iOS 7 and iOS 8, so even if you’re still on older software, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will still benefit from this WinterBoard update.
The complete list of changes of the new and updated version of WinterBoard are as follows:
As you can see, the new version of WinterBoard now supports theming of Assets.car files, which is great news for themers of iOS devices.
From Cydia:
The standalone app has now been removed, and everything can be accessed from within the native iOS Settings app under the WinterBoard tab.
To snap it up, all you need to do is fire up Cydia, run a search for WinterBoard, and ensure that the version you’re installing is 0.9.3916. If an older edition shows up, simply hit refresh, and from there, you should be good to go.
The jailbreak community has worked incredibly hard to adapt some of our most treasured tweaks to iOS 8, and if you’ve been itching to re-theme your device, your wait is finally over.
