Windows 11 will be a free upgrade for all Windows 10 users. Here are the details on this bit.
Microsoft took the wraps off Windows 11 earlier today and, as had been hoped, the update will be a free one for those who already have Windows 10 installed.
That mirrors the Windows 10 situation which was a free update for Windows 7 and Windows 8 users, too.
Microsoft says that it will begin rolling the Windows 11 update out to Windows 10 users this holiday season, while those looking to get the new update will need a 64-bit CPU, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage. The installation will take place via Windows Update as you might expect.
We’ve already covered much of what Windows 11 will offer, but this already looks like a different animal from previous releases. One prime example of that is the addition of support for Android apps via the Amazon Appstore.
The news that Microsoft is giving Windows 11 away isn’t all that surprising to those who have been paying attention but you never do know with Microsoft. We’d still like a more concrete release window than a vague holiday one, but there’s time for that to be tightened up. Microsoft also said that we should be able to buy new PCs with Windows 11 isntalled around the same time, too.
