WhatsApp has started to roll out a new update that adds support for picture-in-picture support when making a video call.
Apple added support for the feature with iOS 14 but developers have to implement it themselves to make it available to users.
The new feature fixes an issue that meant that anyone who left the WhatsApp app during a video call would see the video pause, with the only way to begin it again being to go back to the app. That’s all changing thanks to this update.
Now, anyone who is in a video call and leaves the app will see a new picture-in-picture window appear that can be viewed while using other apps. That’s a big deal for people who have to reference another app, website, or document while on the call.
Other changes in this latest release include the ability to add captions when sending documents as well as support for longer group subjects and descriptions.
The update is available as part of the WhatsApp v23.3.77 release that is now available for download from the App Store. If you have the app installed already with automatic updates enabled you might already have the new update installed. If not, you can download it manually via the App Store now.
