Popular instant messaging app – and relatively recent Facebook purchase – WhatsApp has finally received the app update that everyone has been waiting for. That’s right, WhatsApp now properly supports the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus’ increased screen size.
It may have taken way too long, but they do say that good things come to those who wait so this new update to WhatsApp for iPhone should be a good one.
After spending just a few minutes with it on an iPhone 6 it’s clear that this is the update that we’ve been waiting for. Gone are the fuzzy text and image elements that plagued the old version on Apple’s latest iPhones and we now have the app that should probably have been on the App Store when Apple’s big iPhone release rolled around. Just having more contacts or extra chat threads on-screen at a time is a joy when you’ve been fighting with WhatsApp’s previous version,
WhatsApp 2.11.14 isn’t just about support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus though. According to the rather sparse release notes, WhatsApp is now more stable than before thanks to bug and crash fixes and that’s always a good thing. We didn’t experience crashes ourselves, but if you did then these fixes will arguably be more important than the extra pixels this new WhatsApp takes advantage of.
This new update is free for all WhatsApp users and should be available via whichever localization of the App Store you happen to frequent. Even if you don’t own an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, go get it now.
If you do own one of those two iPhones though, well, you’re in for a real treat.
Previously, WhatsApp was available as a beta download with full support for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, but sadly, that said update was only limited to those who were jailbroken and knew their way around installing IPA files. But today’s update is a feast for everyone, so get downloading!
And oh, the read receipts are still there. Just so that everyone should know.
