WhatsApp is testing a new feature that will allow people to send and receive short video messages for the first time.
While WhatsApp already lets people send text messages as well as voice notes, there is currently no way to be able to send a short video message. But that could be about to change.
That’s according to the WhatsApp experts at WABetaInfo, at least. They report that the latest beta version of WhatsApp that’s available to testers via iOS TestFlight has added the ability to send video messages of up to 60 seconds in length.
Thanks to this new feature, users will be easily able to record and send short videos up to 60 seconds to their contacts by pushing the camera button, and it is definitely a new way to communicate with their friends on WhatsApp.
WABetaInfo goes on to note that it appears these kinds of messages will still be end-to-end encrypted, just like other messages sent via the instant messaging service.
There is currently no indication of when we can look forward to video message support coming to WhatsApp for those of us who don’t have the beta version, but the Meta-owned company will no doubt want to ensure that the feature is thoroughly tested before rolling it out to everyone worldwide.
