WhatsApp, the hugely popular instant messaging platform that offers people rich messaging features across platforms is reportedly bringing passkey support to its iPhone app.
Reported by WABetaInfo, the latest version of WhatsApp that’s available to TestFlight beta testers adds a new many for setting up a passkey although it isn’t yet enabled.
That means that users will have to wait for a future WhatsApp release in order to be able to take passkeys for a spin.
WhatsApp is currently in process of developing a new section where users will be able to configure their own passkey in the future. This passkey configuration will definitely enhance the login process, eliminating the need for the 6-digit code to access your account. After configuring the passkey, users will be able to log into their accounts by using their existing authentication methods, such as Face ID, Touch ID, or the device passcode.
Passkeys are seen by some as a replacement for passwords and usernames. It enables people to sign into apps and services using a biometric option like a fingerprint or face scan, removing the need to remember sign-in credentials.
There is no telling when we can expect this WhatsApp passkey feature to go live, but the company us normally pretty good at taking beta features and bringing them to the version of the app available to the public.
