If you’ve been waiting for Meta to bring WhatsApp to the iPad you might not have to wait all that much longer. That’s after the news that the company is already testing a beta version of the app.
People who are already on the TestFlight beta for the iPhone version of WhatsApp are now able to install the iPad version on their tablet, something that took a lot of us by surprise.
The folks at WABetaInfo were the first to report the news and they’ve been able to get WhatsApp up and running on their iPad. And it seems to work in much the same way that you might expect it to.
To set up WhatsApp on your iPad, you’ll need to have the beta iOS version of the app installed on your iPhone and iPad. Once this is done, you need to use WhatsApp on your iPhone and open WhatsApp Settings > Linked devices > “Link a device” in order to scan the QR code by using your iPad. After linking your iPad with your iPhone, you will be able to use WhatsApp on your iPad independently, without needing your phone to be connected to the Internet, which is a significant convenience for those who work on their tablets.
However, it’s important to remember that this is a beta version of WhatsApp and we can’t all install it just yet. It isn’t clear whether we will see this new iPad app in the App Store soon, but given the fact that a beta version is now in testing, we hope a release won’t be too far away.
Using WhatsApp on an iPad right now means you’re going to have to resort to using the web version in Safari. The fact is we should have had an iPad version of WhatsApp a long time ago, but there could well be light at the end of the tunnel.
