After months of speculation, Apple’s big 2018 iPhone event is upon us. Taking place on September 12th, the event will finally unveil Apple’s 2018 iPhone lineup alongside a handful of other announcements that while lower key than the iPhones, will be sure to cause quite a buzz.
Whether you’re looking out for a new Apple Watch or have been holding off picking up an iPad Pro, the iPhone announcement is about more than just the iPhone.
Of course, the iPhone is going to be the headline grabber, and with three new iPhones ready for market this is going to be another big release for Apple. Let’s take a look at what we can expect from the September 12th event when it rolls around in just over a week.
New iPhones
As is always the case, it’s the iPhone that is causing the most noise this year and we don’t see that changing once the event kicks off, either. Apple has three new iPhones up its sleeve and as the days roll on, we continue to find out more and more information about what Apple has had up its sleeve for the last year. Buyers of iPhones this year will have to decide whether the 5.8-inch replacement for the iPhone X is the way to go, or whether the larger 6.5-inch option is best for them.
Both will apparently be called the iPhone XS, with a third so-called budget option packing a 6.1-inch LCD display, too. That third iPhone is also expected to feature a cheaper chassis with the camera system from the iPhone 8, too.
Apple Watch Series 4
Apple’s also set to give the Apple Watch a new lease of life in the shape of the Apple Watch Series 4. If recent leaks are anything to go by we can expect a new, larger display with smaller bezels and a software redesign that will give us a more information-dense watch face. While we expect existing Apple Watch bands to fit the larger displayed Apple Watch Series 4 without issue, little else is known about Apple’s latest wearable.
New iPad Pro
An iPad Pro refresh has been on the lips of many for months, and it would appear that we will see exactly that in the coming weeks. We don’t yet know whether it will arrive alongside the iPhone and Apple Watch updates on September 12th or via a later announcement, but a new design with Face ID and no Home button are almost certainties. Smaller bezels should also make the overall footprint of the new tablet shrink, too. Imagine a squarer, larger iPhone X and you will be right on the money.
While all of the new hardware announcements are perhaps the most exciting things to look forward to, Apple will also have some new software for us. A final beta or Golden Master release version for iOS 12, watchOS 5, tvOS 12, and macOS Mojave would be expected to debut alongside the big event, with official releases to the public likely to arrive one week later.
