A new trailer has been released for the upcoming Steve Jobs biopic starring Two and a Half Men’s Ashton Kutcher. The movie, originally scheduled for release this past April, will reach theaters the world over on August 16th. You can watch the trailer after the jump.
The first real trailer for the movie, following on from a minute dealer released back in January, showcases a number of scenes from the movie that was original premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. At the time the movie received mixed reviews which reportedly led to the delay in releasing the title. Having watched the two-minute trailer though, we can’t help but get a distinct Pirates of Silicon Valley vibe, and that’s certainly not a bad thing!
With Ashton Kutcher playing the iconic Steve Jobs and Josh Gad as Steve Wozniak, the movie is one of a few Jobs-related works to either be released or be worked in since the Apple co-founder’s passing. Perhaps the most hotly anticipated, because of Kutcher’s involvement, ‘Jobs’ will reach audiences before Aaron Sorkin’s effort which will be based on the official biography of Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. Sorkin’s movie is still in the early stages of development, giving Kutcher’s effort quite the head start at the box office.
Steve Jobs was famous for being one of the best product people in the business, but was certainly not without his flaws. How ‘Jobs’ deals with the polarizing figure’s somewhat schizophrenic nature will dictate how well it is received by many. The trailer gives us hope that ‘Jobs’ will not disappoint in that regard, however.
We can’t wait for August so that we can sit down and take in Kutcher’s performance for ourselves, but it’ll have to go some way to eclipse Noah Wyle’s portrayal of the Apple co-founder in Pirates of Silicon Valley. If you’ve not seen it yet, you really should, if only because the former ER actor looks eerily like the man himself throughout the movie!
To wrap things up; what do you think of the trailer? Do you think Ashton Kutcher fits Steve Jobs’ role perfectly or should he have been played by someone else?
My vote is for Kutcher, I’m sure there’s no one else who can visually portray Jobs in a better way.
