For the lucky few who managed to get a hold of the Mac Pro before the shipping was pushed back to February, the wait is finally over, and no new product launch would be complete without a spate of unboxings. The first are beginning to emerge online on sites such as YouTube, and if you’re anxious to see what the device and its packaged contents look like as they’re extracted from packaging, then you’ll want to join us after the break.

Some have noted that the new design looks like a trashcan, and it’s fairly hard to argue against that assessment. The company’s most powerful computer of all time looks conspicuously as though it’s been stolen from Darth Vader, and with less scope for owners to add their own hardware within, many have also been swift to point out that the compact design forgoes the upgrade-ability enjoyed by the previous model.

For a long time, it was looking like the Mac Pro would never be getting upgraded. In fact, it has been more than 7 years since the release of the original model, but with the announcement of a new cylindrical model at this year’s WWDC, Pro fans had plenty of reasons to be excited.

Starting at $2,999 for the entry-level model – if you can call it that – Apple is also offering a higher-spec version that it will sell to you for a thousand bucks more. For the high price, you do get plenty of power, and if you’re looking for the ultimate experience on an OS X machine, you won’t get a stronger performance than the new Mac Pro.

As ever, you can customize your Mac Pro to suit your personal requirements, although naturally, you’re going to be paying through the nose for the privilege. If you were to fully kit out your Mac Pro with the most expensive pieces of kit Apple has available, you’re looking at a total cost of $9,599, which is, considering you don’t even get a display, quite a sum to part with for a computer.

Still, I know plenty of you are itching to get your hands on this machine, and while you wait for the release, or indeed, to have enough money stashed away, check out the unboxing below.
