Apple’s brand new M1 iMac is the first to come in multiple colors for a good long while now. The orange iMac is definitely a good-looking machine, but it isn’t the first iMac to come in such a color. Not by a long chalk.
Apple historian, Stephen Hacket, has one of the original orange iMacs on hand, because of course he does.
The G3 iMac came in 13 different colors and Hacket has set out to collect them all. That also means that he has an orange iMac on hand to compare with … the orange iMac. And the whole thing can be seen in a new video that compares the M1 iMac with the G3.
Comparing computers that were released more than 20 years apart is pretty silly, but here we are.
This is a great way to spend less than three minutes of your life and we heartily recommend checking it out. The new iMacs are stunning computers, but it’s easy to forget that the G3 iMac was a pretty gorgeous machine back in the day, too. In fact, we’d wager that they still look better than most PCs even today.
