There have been few titles in gaming history that have reached as much acclaim and popularity as the Final Fantasy franchise. Apart from the amazing gameplay and the deeply immersive storylines, the game has had a certain appeals with gamers that is rarely found in the gaming universe. So, the news that Square Enix, the publisher behind the massive franchise, has just released a new trailer for its Final Fantasy VI remaster for the iOS is definitely going to resonate well with a lot of passionate gamers.
The trailer, shows off the gameplay as we’d expect to see on our iPhones and iPads as well as Android phones and tablets, when the game becomes publicly available later this season.
The game will be hitting Japan some time this winter for both iOS and Android devices. They managed to get their hands on the very first official trailer through the Jump Festa official stream, showing off the remastered visuals of the popular title in Final Fantasy universe on a smartphone’s screen.
Final Fantasy VI wouldn’t be the first title to be remastered for iOS and/or Android. As of now, other titles in the franchise, including dedicated gallery apps for several episodes, remain some of the highest costing games on the iTunes App Store, with prices north of $15 apiece. Then again, Square Enix has generally catered to a very niche gaming enthusiast community, and those hardly ever have a reason not to dish out those dimes when needed.
Speaking of Square Enix’s other titles, you might want to check out the massive sale that they’re holding over at the iTunes App Store, whereby some titles have seen price slashes of more than 50%.
Final Fantasy is one of those franchises that have never lost its appeal. From the 8-bit clumsy graphics of the original Final Fantasy trilogy to the extreme visuals that we saw with Final Fantasy XII for consoles, the game has maintained not just its immersive and vastly detailed universe, but also the fan base that it gathered over the years. It would be interesting to see how customers continue to react to these remakes. Some consider these to be a waste of money and space on iPhones and iPads, while others can’t wait to get their hands on every new title, even if it’s retelling an old story. In the end, it’s a matter of personal choice, but hey, I won’t mind having princess Yuna run around on my iPad!
