Even though we’ve not had a chance to properly acquaint ourselves with Apple’s in-progress CarPlay technology, we’d imagine that it would be just that little bit more enjoyable to try out from a $300,000 Ferrari FF as opposed to a more regular car. With Apple showcasing its in-car flavor of iOS at this week’s WWDC, attendees have been trying CarPlay for size at the wheel of the Ferrari FF super car, and luckily for us folks who haven’t had the privilege, there’s a walkthrough video of the new feature in action.

Sure, watching a three-minute clip is not quite the same as stepping into a Ferrari for yourself, but given CarPlay’s very limited exposure, we’ll take what we can get.

The guys at Canadian Reviewer kindly obliged with the task of sitting in the dream machine at WWDC, and while many of us will have been too focused on the interiors to worry about CarPlay, the author actually offers a very thorough demonstration of CarPlay.

First announced as iOS in the Car, CarPlay integration was finally rolled out with iOS 7.1, and as you’ll see from this clip below, Siri plays a major role in ensuring that drivers can safely interact with their handsets without taking their eyes off the road.

In the clip, you see CarPlay used to make a simple phone call, display Maps for directions and even send messages in seamless fashion, and with a host of production car manufacturers on board ranging from Mercedes-Benz to Volvo, you won’t need $300,000 to reap the benefits of CarPlay.

In fact, with Pioneer offering an aftermarket option as recently confirmed by the audio specialist, you won’t even need a new car to take advantage of CarPlay, and with a bunch of other companies set to do likewise, Apple could command a significant portion of the in-car market in years to come.

Given Ferrari and Apple’s close relationship – Apple SVP Eddy Cue is, after all, a board member at the Italian firm – it’s no surprise to see the FF showing CarPlay off at WWDC, and if this demonstration is anything to go by, it would appear that the feature is now all-but ready for prime time.
