The (PRODUCT)RED iPhone 7 / 7 Plus is a new product Apple released recently, but is it really new? Short answer of course is no. But what is so special about this new iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, which they released 6 months later that many – including myself – were getting so hyped about?
Well, it is just a new color. That is really it.
While it is a new color, there is another purpose for it. Apple partnered with (RED), which they’ve done in the past to release other RED colored products to help fight HIV/AIDS by donating a portion of the profits to organization. (RED) has raised over $465 million, but Apple really doesn’t specify exactly how much of this phone, which starts at $750, gets donated to (RED).
The red color option has a matte red back, color matched red antenna lines, a white bezel on the front, and a silver Touch ID ring.
Personally, when they announced this color, I really wished it had a black bezel on the front. That color option would have been nice, but with it being partnered with (RED), I think the choice of color seems to fit it.
If you are wondering about the hardware, don’t expect anything new from the current iPhone 7 and 7 Plus. What is new about the red color option is the appearance and the fact it is contributing part of the profits to (RED) which in my opinion is great. If you are in the market for purchasing the red iPhone 7/7 Plus, just like the Jet Black model, it is only available in 128GB and 256GB. The iPhone 7 in red starts at $750 and 7 Plus at $870.
