The jury has finally reached a verdict in the round two of Apple vs Samsung trial and has found Samsung to have infringed on two out of five patents of Apple. As a result, Samsung has been ordered to pay Apple around 120 million dollars ($119,625,000 to be exact) in damages, a far cry from $2.2 billion which Apple asked for.
Recode reports:
The jury found all accused Samsung phones infringed on the first patent at issue, the ’647 quick links patent, but ruled various phones did not infringe on two others. For one other it ruled some Samsung products infringe, while others did not. Four a fifth patent, the judge had ruled that Samsung’s products infringe on the Apple patent and the jury determined that infringement was willful.
Jury also found Apple to have infringed on one of Samsung’s patents, for which Apple now owes Samsung $158,400.
Statement from Apple:
We are grateful to the jury and the court for their service. Today’s ruling reinforces what courts around the world have already found: That Samsung willfully stole our ideas and copied our products. We are fighting to defend the hard work that goes into beloved products like the iPhone, which our employees devote their lives to designing and delivering for our customers.
This is second major verdict that has come in favor of Apple. First was back in August 2012 when Samsung was ordered to pay Apple $1.05 billion in damages.
