Project Highland is a name that we’ve been hearing for months now and it’s thought to be the codename for Tesla’s upcoming Model 3 refresh.
That refresh is thought to come with a slight facelift as we as, we’re now told, RGB lighting. And there’s more, too.
We’ve been hearing rumors of Tesla working on an updated Model 3 for some time and a camouflaged model was seen during testing in California towards the end of 2022. The car has made a few appearances since, but it’s what’s inside that’s most interesting.
Already tipped to come with the new Hardware 4.0 computer system, the newly updated model is now also thought to have some other changes on the way.
That’s according to Teslascope, a third-party app for Tesla owners. Now, based on supposed discussions with Tesla employees we’re told that there are some more significant improvements under the hood, starting with a steer-by-wire system. That system will be available on both yoke and steering wheel configurations.
Beyond that, new RGB ambient lights are also thought to be part of the refresh as are new matrix LEDs on all trims. On top of that, a new bumper camera is also thought to be part of the refresh. However, EV-watchers Electrek suggests that we should take all of this with a pinch of salt “especially since the information is a mix of precise new details and vague possible changes.”
With the updated Model 3 expected to be announced relatively soon, we won’t have to wait all that much longer to find out.
