The HTC One has been one of the most expected devices among the tech community, with many looking forward to giving it a try. While HTC’s supply chain seemed chaotic last week, with the company warning prospective users that it might not be able to ship the device out on time, the company’s issues were clearly resolved as HTC officially announced that both the 32GB HTC One and the 64GB developer edition would be available in U.S. for order today and ship overnight.
Both of these devices, unlike those purchased from carriers, are fully unlocked. The 32GB model, aimed at high-end consumers, is now available $574.99, while a beefed up 64GB “Developer Edition”, aimed at higher-end customers looking for enhanced capacity and customizability options, is now available for purchase for $649.99.
Both of these devices feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor, 2GB of RAM, front-facing stereo speakers, two dual-membrane microphones for high-quality sound recording and a 4.7-inch 1080p high-definition display, which will likely make video playback on the go a lot more pleasant. There is also a 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera on the back with LED flash, supporting 1080p HD video recording, as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing camera, perfect for video calls. As promised by the manufacturer, both of these devices also indeed ship SIM unlocked, allowing the user to switch carriers whenever they feel like it.
The HTC One is sold as a premium-grade device, using its build quality as a selling point. Indeed, the device’s aluminum shell, with the antennas embedded on the back, looks and feels a lot more solid than the plastic enclosures found on most Android devices on the market today. HTC has also redesigned its custom Android interface, known as HTC Sense, giving it a minimalistic design and adding more features that are useful to users. Sense 5.0 will also be available on previous HTC devices, such as the HTC One X and the HTC Butterfly.
If you are looking to get your hands on the device quickly though, then you might just be a little out of luck. At the time of writing, the initial batch has been sold out, showing that the initial demand for the device is really high. The next batch will start shipping out in 2 to 4 weeks. However, if you believe that the price is too steep, then you might want to pre-order HTC One from AT&T. Keep in mind that the devices mentioned above are fully unlocked and not bound to any sort of contract. Once you part with your money, the phone is all yours. On AT&T, you’ll get a subsidized device for a price of $200 for the 32GB version and $300 for the 64GB version, but they will both be bound with a contract.
