As you may already know, Apple today released the much awaited update to iOS 4.3 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. For those of you who like to jailbreak your devices, or rely on a carrier unlock, here’s all you need to know.
iOS 4.3 Jailbreak
Today’s public release is exactly similar to the last week’s GM release. What this means is that since the .IPSW firmware files are exactly the same, you can use the existing bundles which were released last week with PwnageTool to jailbreak your iOS devices. We have already covered extensive tutorials on how to do it:
- How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone 4
- How to Jailbreak iOS 4.3 on iPhone 3GS (New and Old Bootrom)

This jailbreak though is tethered only. Which means that you will have to reboot your device every time in a jailbroken-state in order to access Cydia and other jailbreak related stuff.
The kernel based untethered exploit which GreenPois0n RC5/6 used is now closed in iOS 4.3. Untether for 4.3 though may come sooner or later.
iOS 4.3 Unlock
iPhone 4 users who were waiting for unlock on 2.10.04, 3.10.01 and 4.10.01 basebands wont be able to unlock their devices anytime soon, confirms iPhone Dev Team’s MuscleNerd.
There is always hope though, its just that for the time being, it is being delayed. And the reasons are:
MuscleNerd: Ultrasn0w unlockers should know the drill! Don’t let iTunes trick you into installing today’s 4.3 iOS. Just say no!
MuscleNerd: Sorry, there’s no news on the i4 unlock for those who lost 01.59 (or never had it). It’s taking longer than we wanted 🙁
MuscleNerd: @Cleansman there’s no way for us to know. We were making great headway with one version til we realized it was SIM dependent (!)
If your iPhone 4 is rocking 1.59.xx baseband, YOU MUST NOT UPDATE to iOS 4.3 because that baseband can still be unlocked using Ultrasn0w 1.2.
iPhone 3GS users can also unlock their devices on iOS 4.3 by updating their baseband to iPad’s 06.15.00, instructions for which can be found here and here.
As always, we will keep you updated ! Stay tuned for more!
