Apple is expected to announce new devices at its WWDC23 event on 5 June but we don’t know exactly what.
Now, a new leak appears to have suggestion that at least three new Macs are on the way, although they could be variations on the same machine.
A report by MacRumors citing Twitter show that new identifies for specific Macs have been found alongside ethe M2 and M2 Pro Mac minis. The Find My configuration that they have suggests that they might not be portable Macs.
The new identifiers are Mac14,8, Mac14,13, and Mac14,14, and they appear in a list alongside Mac14,3 and Mac14,12, the identifiers for the latest M2 and M2 Pro Mac mini models. The list in Apple’s configuration file relates to overriding “separation monitoring,” which suggests these could be desktop Mac models that do not need to be actively tracked via Find My for separation from the user as portable Macs do.
That’s interesting because we’re expecting Apple to announce a new 15-inch MacBook Air, which would presumably require such separation alerts.
Apple could of course finally announce the new Mac Pro, the first with Apple silicon. But that wasn’t expected to be announced just yet. The same goes for an updated Mac Studio, making this latest news all the more intriguing.
Apple’s WWDC event is also expected to bring with it an announcement of the software that will power the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple TV through the end of 2023 and into 2024 as well.
