AltStore PAL is a third-party app marketplace that is available to iPhone and iPad owners in countries within the European Union and it’s starting to make third-party apps available for the first time.
But two of the three new apps are definitely not the kinds of apps that would have been allowed into the App Store.
The two apps in question include iTorrent, an app that is an iOS torrent client while the other is a remote client for qBittorrent.
A third new app coming to the marketplace is a dating app called PeopleDrop which is designed to connect people with others as they pass them by on the street while the final app is UTM SE, an app for emulating older operating systems including macOS and iOS, as well as Windows.
The addition of the two torrent apps is obviously something that is notable because these apps would not normally be available on iPhones due to Apple’s App Store rules. For that reason, they won’t be available outside of EU countries, with the bloc’s Digital Markets Act allowing for third-party marketplaces.
It remains to be seen how popular any of these apps will be or whether they do pose the security risks that Apple is worried about. But many would argue that having the option to install them is better than not having that option at all.
