Tweetbot Gets 3D Touch Quick Actions, Peek And Pop On iPhone 6s / 6s Plus

Tweetbot for iOS has just been updated with support for 3D Touch features on the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Tweetbot has been the choice of app for many Twitter users around the globe, and as the latest smartphones from Apple begin to saturate the market, the update seems to have come in at the right time.

It was just two weeks back when we saw the creators rollout a major new update to Tweetbot, bringing it up to version 4. The update was a major overhaul over version 3, and saw Tweetbot finally supporting the iPad along with the new multitasking features introduced with iOS 9 for the tablet. Today, it has been updated with support for 3D Touch on the new Phones.

With 3D Touch redefining the iOS experience, Tweetbot 4.0.1 comes in embracing all that the pressure sensitive tech that Apple has to offer in its newer iPhones. We now have Quick Actions available on the iOS Home screen followed by the invaluable Peek and Pop features. The Quick Actions menu will now allow users to write up a tweet, tweet the last captured photo, access the new Activity tab, and even reply to a mention or direct message, when you receive a new notification, pretty neat!

Additionally, thanks to the Peek and Pop feature, users can also now jump in and out of previewing contents in-app such as photos, videos, web URLs etc. This new functionality is bound to further justify the app’s version 4.0’s $5 price tag as it helps users get around the Twitter environment much quickly than before.

The developers have also rolled out the usual bug fixes and performance improvements, and have also packed in localized support for French, Japanese, and Spanish. The complete changelog of Tweetbot 4.0.1 is as follows:

3D touch peek and pop support in the timeline. We’ll add it to more places in future releases.
3D touch home screen quick actions.
Localized for French, Spanish and Japanese. More coming.
Lots of bug fixes.

Existing Tweetbot users should find an update waiting in the App Store, but do keep in mind that the 3D Touch features will only be applicable on the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus. If you have never tried the app before, these new updates should make the experience worth your while.

Update x1: Tweetbot has now been updated to version 4.0.2.  In addition to everything mentioned above, here’s what it adds:

– You can now swipe back to dismiss Tweetbot’s browser. Feel free to quietly rejoice.
– YouTube links will open directly in the YouTube app, if you have it installed
– Fixed a crash when 3D Touch peeking from night mode, sorry about that
