Apple has now released tvOS 17 to the public and you can now download it on your Apple TV, for free, so long as it’s connected to the internet.
The final tvOS 17 release is now here after months of beta testing following its announcement at WWDC on June 5. That testing has seen multiple betas released as developers get their apps ready to work with the new software.
The tvOS 17 update isn’t the only one, of course, with Apple also working on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, macOS Sonoma, and watchOS 10 at the same time.
This tvOS update isn’t a huge one, as is the norm these days. There are some interface tweaks here and there but the biggest change is undoubtedly support for FaceTime while using an iPhone as the camera. That feature uses the Continuity Camera feature and appears to work well from what we have seen so far.
Now that tvOS 17 is available for download you can get your hands on it now without being a developer. Installation is easy, simply open the Settings app on your Apple TV and choose System, followed by Software Updates.
The download shouldn’t take too long and your Apple TV will restart once the update is completed. You’ll need to press a button on your Siri Remote to initiate the connection but from there, you’re good to go.
