Apple has just made available to download tvOS 10.1 beta 4 for Apple TV fourth-generation set-top box to those users registered on the Apple Developer Program.
This release comes approximately two weeks after third beta of tvOS 10.1 was made available, four weeks after the initial beta, and couple of days after beta 4 was released for all of other Apple platforms, including iOS 10.2, macOS 10.12.2 and watchOS 3.1.1.
At this stage in a release, the updates become more about streamlining the platform over actually introducing brand new functionality or feature-sets that haven’t been seen before.
Apple has really excited Apple TV owners with the development of tvOS 10.1 by not only introducing the new Single Sign-on feature that had been promised a while back, but also bundling the brand new TV app into the firmware. So yes, in addition to bug fixes and performance improvements, Apple TV owners now have the fantastic new TV experience to interact with starting with tvOS 10.1.
The Single Sign-on feature (also available on iOS 10.2-running devices) currently supports DirecTV, Dish, GVTC Communications, Hotwire and Dish’s Sling TV with more networks and cable operators to be added in due time.
As for the new TV app, which by the way is also available on iOS 10.2-running iPhones and iPads, you can learn about its features and functionality in our separate post over here.
Those plucky developers and enterprising individuals who have a configuration profile for tvOS beta updates installed on their Apple TV via iTunes, this latest tvOS 10.1 beta 4 can be downloaded over-the-air from the Software Update mechanism right from Apple TV itself.
For those who don’t have the profile installed yet can head over to developers.apple.com to download the required configuration file and then install it via iTunes.
