Those old enough to remember the old rotary telephones will instantly recognize SlideMe, a new jailbreak tweak for iPhones. With SlideMe installed, an iPhone can be unlocked by scrolling through numbers, 1 through 9, in order to enter each digit of its PIN code. You know, like an old telephone.
Available from the Cydia jailbreak store and costing $1.49, SlideMe looks nice and minimalistic when installed and activated, and that’s certainly a good thing if you like that kind of aesthetic. The new iPhone unlocking method completely replaces the stock PIN entry system, instead displaying a large wheel that is then rotated in order to select the required digits. Select the digits that make up the device’s security PIN and the device unlocks. Things don’t get much more simple than this.
While SlideMe might not be huge on functionality, it does at least allow for a spot of customization so those so inclined can set about making sure their new Lock screen matches the rest of their device’s aesthetic. Users can select the color for the border and text as well as portions of the interface, which are either filled or unfilled. If you have an eye for detail and like everything to match up just so, this level of customization will no doubt be welcome. If you’re not, the stock settings look nice enough anyway, so fear not.
While not free, $1.49 isn’t a lot to pay for a tweak these days and if you fancy entering your PIN code like you’re back in the 1980s, this is perfect for you.
I’m not sure I like the idea of unlocking my iPhones being such a time-consuming process, but if aesthetics are your main aim here, SlideMe could well be worth your money.
You’ll find SlideMe under the BigBoss repository of the Cydia store. The tweak is compatible with iOS 9, and as mentioned above, costs $1.49.
