When Apple announced that custom keyboards were coming to the iPhone and iPad with iOS 8, everyone’s attentions immediately turned to keyboards like Swype and Swiftkey. It’s easy to see why, too. Being able to swipe instead of type is the exact kind of thing Apple no doubt had in mind when it decided to allow third-party apps to be installed on its precious hardware. It did not, we suspect, expect to see they keyboard we just came across.
Called Color Keyboard, it’s not too difficult to work out what it does. While developers have been climbing over themselves to get new keyboards onto the App Store that add features like Text Expander or simply make typing easier by enabling swiping gestures like Swype, Color Keyboard has taken a completely different approach by bringing nothing new to the table functionality-wise, but rather simply trying to brighten up the lives of the people that use it.
Color Keyboard is called so for a good reason, and that’s because it can turn the iOS keyboard into a variety of colors for those that are just sick and tired of that dull grey that we’ve all become all too accustomed to. Users who download Color Keyboard can choose from over 50 themes and even have the option of over 30 different click sounds for when they press a key. Those themes change the background of the keyboard, the color of the keys and can even add textures for those that just can’t get enough color in their lives.
Available across the entire iOS system, Color Keyboard is perfect for those that don’t need any fancy keyboard features, but would rather spice their lives up a tad by using a more colorful keyboard than the one Apple offers. It’s not going to be for everyone, but considering it’s free, there’s not much to lose from giving Color Keyboard a try anyway.
You can download Color Keyboard from the link embedded below and having an iOS 8 running device is a strict requirement.
