It has been rumored from time to time that Google is working on a tablet of its own, but evidence of its existence has been sparse lately. But luckily today, a leaked image from the Google Play Store reveals that the tablet is very much real, and is all set to be announced today.
The tablet – as rumored before – is manufactured by ASUS, as you can tell from the branding at the back of the tablet itself. We were expecting the tablet to carry a very obvious name, such as ‘Nexus Tablet’, but it seems as though Google is going with an unusual naming convention and going to call it the ‘Nexus 7’.
The Nexus 7 will boast a 7-inch IPS display with a resolution of 1280×800, is rumored to have quad-core 1.3 GHz Tegra 3 processor, a fair 1GB of RAM and a forward facing 1.2 megapixel camera. And in case you’re wondering, there’s no rear facing camera on this one, bummer.
To wrap it up, it will be powered by the upcoming iteration of Android, version 4.1 Jelly Bean.
We’re just a few minutes away from the event and everything will be revealed once and for all. Stay tuned to Redmond Pie as we cover the whole Google I/O 2012 event as it unfolds.
