This iPhone 7 Concept Ditches Visible Antenna, Refines Design With Thinner Bezel [Video]

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus may only be a few months old, but already, the tech world has begun speculating on what’s next. It’s not uncommon for this to be the case, particularly in the smartphone industry, and in fact, talk of the "iPhone 6s" or "iPhone 7" has been prevalent since the arrival of the latest models way back in September. Given that we’re now approaching the halfway point of the iPhone 6’s shelf life, it actually makes sense to assess where Apple may next take its prized asset, and one designer has pulled together some renders that have us hoping that the Cupertino company is watching.

Although Apple had done enough to appease most consumers with the iPhone 5s, it was still remnant of the iPhone 4’s design, which first hit the market back in 2010. The consensus in the run-up to the iPhone 6 was that Apple needed to freshen things up, and sure enough, we’ve been treated to an iPad Air-esque finish with, thankfully, larger display options to boot.

But since Apple also added NFC to the multitude of new features, it’s almost hard to imagine where the company may go next, and while the idea of another incremental "s" release seems plausible given the radical nature of the changes last year, one designer has dreamed up a concept that tweaks every facet.

Yasser Farahi’s vision of the redesigned iPhone 7 gives us a taster of what we might be getting later on next year, after the expected rudimentary spec bump this fall. The concept arrives complete with a thinner bezel – something that is always viewed favorably upon by mobile users – and a more slender overall form factor.

Wireless charging, which is something that Apple has yet to delve into, is also a part of Farahi’s plans, although the really eye-catching nugget of info on the list of specs is the 5GB of on-board RAM. Running on an A10 chip, presumably two generations ahead of the current 64-bit A8 of the iPhone 6, Farahi’s iPhone 7 could not be accused of scrimping on power, although with iOS 9 as its listed software, perhaps he does believe Apple could make such a major leap this year as opposed to next.

With two new colors – Wine and Copper – being added to the current pool of Gold, White and Space Gray, Farahi clearly thinks the line-up could do with a tad more variety, although admittedly, the color choices are a little too plain and uninspiring to our taste.

Still, with wireless charging, beastly interiors, and, oh, a 12-megapixel camera, there’s quite a bit to gawk at, and if Apple can manage to create a comparably-powered handset at such thinness, it’d be nothing short of miraculous.

Thoughts?
