Apple’s iPhone has been a continued success story, with sales improving as each new version arrives. One model that does stick out a little is the iPhone 5c, which was the company’s attempt at a more affordable handset, and although it has divided opinion, continues to retail alongside the iPhone 5s, iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. In the run-up to last September, it was reckoned that colorful, plastic-clad 5c would be scrapped, but having been thrown out for a second run, it may well be here to stay. One concept maker seems to agree, and as such, has come through with some impressive renders of what the next version – should it ever manifest itself – may look like.
In short, the guys at 3D Future have kept in mind the form factor of the two current flagship models and essentially added a bit of shiny color to proceedings. Where many doubted that consumers would buy a plastic iPhone – particularly since they’d been accustomed to higher-end materials like metal and glass – the opposite has proved to be true, and while very little solid information has been leaked regarding the future of the iPhone, it’s reasonable to believe that an ‘iPhone 6c’ could eventually reach fruition.
The vibrant hues complement the overall design quite nicely, and the little dab of color surrounding the Home button / Touch ID sensor is a nice finishing touch. If Apple is to one-up the iPhone 5c, it’s likely that it will include a larger display, and given the design language of the entire iOS device range these days, 3D Future’s renderings mightn’t be too far off the real thing.
Still, it’s worth remembering that these are just designs for now, and while Lumia-esque color configurations are quite easy on the eye, we would, given the choice, probably still opt for the metallic shades already on offer with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus.
There’s no harm in guessing what might be next though, and if the iPhone 6c did get a revamp in the image of the iPhone 6, would you consider making the purchase? Or would you prefer the arguably more premium, metallic shell?
