In the run-up to the release of any high-end device, there’s always a certain level of excitement and anticipation, and with speculation having suggested that the iPhone 6 will be notably larger than any previous Apple smartphone, it’s no wonder that analysts are already projecting a spike in upgrades and Android switchers. The iPhone 6 concepts have been arriving thick and fast, but today’s effort from the folks of ConceptsiPhone has simply blown us away, packing a 5.5-inch edge-to-edge display into an undeniably beautiful form factor.
What’s particularly interesting about this design, is that in actual fact, it takes into consideration much of the chatter we’ve been hearing with regards to the iPhone 6, which will purportedly arrive in two new size configurations. The smaller of the pair, which will still be considerably larger than any iPhone Apple has released so far, is said to include a ~4.7-inch display, while the higher-end iteration will reach the phablet threshold at around 5.5 inches.
This concept, which offers the same White and Gold, White and Silver, and Space Gray color options of the iPhone 5s, gives us an idea of what the 5.5-inch iPhone 6 might look like, but also, features a curved rear finish akin to the iPhone 5c – a notion that has been suggested only recently.
The curvaceous shell has certainly proved a winner with the iPad Air, which has been the subject of a great deal of acclaim for its design, and while the iPhone 5s is certainly a nice-looking device, the iPhone 5c, with its rounded edges, for example, is more comfortable to hold.
Thus, while this exact design may not be on the agenda, it’s certainly plausible that the ConceptsiPhone effort is at least vaguely representative of what we can expect of the iPhone 6. Then again, given just how gorgeous this device is, even trying to envisage the device based upon what we see here would be a dangerous game, and one that would almost certainly be setting ourselves up for disappointment when the real thing doesn’t reach the bar set by the concept makers.
Still, while we shouldn’t get too carried away with these concepts, there’s no harm in dreaming, and if you’re already waiting – money in hand – for a 5.5-inch iPhone to appear, here’s a rather cruel teaser of what we can only hope Apple has in mind:
