Customizable keyboards have greatly heightened the iOS 8 experience, allowing users to choose a third-party app to suit their precise typing needs. There are many different types of keyboards available already, ranging from feature-rich, pro-level typing experiences to those focusing on GIFs and emoji, but one thing that most keyboards have in common is that they’re themable. For the most part, however, you can only select from a bunch of default options, but a new entry to the great App Store sees one developer hand these aesthetic reigns over to a wide selection of creative designers.
Not only is Themeboard packed with an abundance of features useful to everyday typing, such as text-to-emoji / kaomoji, but developer Taphive has teamed up with a number of designers to deliver some truly mesmerizing themes. As you can see in the screenshots, they look spectacular, and if you’re bored of being stuck with just a handful of different options when it comes to theming, then this appropriately-named app has your back.
In truth, Themeboard isn’t the first third-party keyboard to offer keyboard layouts and themes as in-app purchases, but what’s particularly striking here is the diversity in what’s available. From the sumptuous Gold Edition, which nicely complements the iPhone model of the same color, to the FC Barcelona theme designed squarely with soccer fans in mind, you’re not going to find a more varied, intriguing, and captivating range of themes through any app.
Despite its name, though, Themeboard doesn’t completely focus on appearance, and in real-world use, is both smooth and feature-rich. As well as offering appropriate word suggestions as you type, it’ll automatically import your iOS keyboard shortcuts, and as far as all-round keyboard solutions for iOS are concerned, Themeboard throws its hat into the ring with a very strong performance throughout.
Themeboard is free to download and install on your iPhone, supporting all handsets that run iOS 8, although please be aware that many of the themes in-app are paid, but the free ones are enough to keep you busy for quite a while.
