We’ve been hearing rumors of all kinds of things in relation to a new PS5 Slim games console arriving possibly as soon as September, but the biggest leak yet might have just happened.
The claims have so far centered around a thinner PS5 console that also has a removable disc drive, allowing people to choose whether they want to add a disc drive at a later date. Now, photo and video leaks appear to have outed the unconfirmed console.
The Verge reports that the first leak came via a Chinese forum which saw a leaked image appear. Then, a video might give us a better look at things and was shared by Better Way Electronics, a PlayStation repair specialist in Australia. That video shows a plastic case of what is possibly a future PS5 refresh. There’s also a bulge for the disc drive.
The video also appears to show dual USB-C ports on the front, an upgrade over the single USB-C and USB-A combination.
The idea of a removable disk drive could change things for people who currently have to choose between the $399 PS5 Digital Edition or the $499 PS5 with a disc drive. There’s also talk of the PS5 Slim selling for $399.99, replacing the Digital Edition.

With the PS5 getting its first sales in some countries of late it’s possible that Sony is getting ready to refresh things. All eyes will be on next few weeks to see what comes of those September release date rumors.
