Finally, it appears, you can ditch your standalone Google Voice app (except for voicemail, of course), and you're given the option to set Google Voice, or Carrier Service as your default sending option. Alternatively, you can also set it to ask / prompt you each time, making it real easy to use the native Messaging app for both Google Voice and carrier. To make things even easier, there's the option for you to annotate the messages in order to differentiate between the two types, so you'll not be confused as to whether you sent a message via GV or via your carrier network.

It works OK, although at the moment, the app does seem to be experiencing some issues with regards to notifications, but this app is certainly a step in the right direction in terms of getting Google Voice running natively within Android. It costs $4.99, which is quite steep, but it's reasonable for what it does.

It's not fully syncing with the Google Voice web service just yet, but with a future updates and improvements, this app could certainly be the real deal.

As previously stated, your device will need to be rooted before installation, and considering its price tag, you wouldn't want to erroneously be purchasing something which you cannot even install, so please make sure you're rooted before parting with your dollars.
