The popularity of smartphones can’t really be brought into question, after all, the sales figures speak for themselves across the world. But what about those individuals who know what device they want to use as their main phone but want to make an additional purchase to handle their own personal media or music needs? The iPod touch is definitely one of the major contenders, but the accepted device for those Android lovers seems to be Samsung’s Galaxy Media Player.
If the Galaxy Media Player is your accepted weapon of choice, then a newly surfaced image could show exactly what we might be expecting from the new model when Samsung pushes it into the market. The image shows a device that looks remarkable similar to the company’s current smartphone smash, the Samsung Galaxy S III and features the exact same form-factor and outer bezel that adorns the external facade of the device. The image also shows a number of apps and widgets on the home screen that could possibly indicate the new device being able to run much of the already used offerings.
The technical specification that comes attached with the image also makes up for pretty impressive reading, and indicates a new media player device that will certainly compete with the best options already out there as well as most smartphones. Samsung has stayed true to their belief that users want a large display and have included a rather large 5.8-inch TFT LCD display with a 540×960 resolution. Comparable devices like the fourth-generation iPod touch are often said to feel very slow and lethargic when handling certain tasks, something that shouldn’t really be an issue for this new Samsung creation thanks to the 1GHz dual-core CPU and 1GB of onboard DDR2 RAM.
All of the expected internal hardware sensors have been packed into the device, including an accelerometer and gyroscope as well as having a rear-facing 3-megapixel camera and runs on top of Ice Cream Sandwich, sorry Jelly Bean lovers. Some may consider it a shame that Samsung haven’t gone all out and offered the device with Jelly Bean, but in all honesty, it shouldn’t really be an issue for a device that is a media player. Now all we need is the official nod from Samsung that this is what we think it is.
