Last month was undoubtedly huge for Apple with the initial public release of iOS 6 and the worldwide announcement and launch of the sixth-generation iPhone. All signals are suggesting that October will be equally as important for the Cupertino technology giants with the expected announcement and release of the purported iPad Mini. It may not be as big an announcement as all of that, but it looks like Apple Stores will also start to stock iPhone 5 cases later on this month.
The iPhone 5 has been available to the public for three weeks now, and with Apple desperately trying to fulfill back-orders and getting some stock shipped around their stores; it doesn’t take a genius to see that the demand far outweighs supply at this present moment in time. Although the new iPhone seems to keep the majority happy, one thing that has been noted is the lack of cases and accessories for the new smartphone. We should all know by now that Apple hasn’t taken the plunge and rolled their own Bumper or case for the new iPhone as of yet, but October 22nd is apparently the day that they will start appeasing customers by stocking third-party cases.
The demand for protective cases for the sixth-generation iPhone seems to be at an all-time high and is more than likely due to consumer reports that are suggesting that the device is extremely easy to scratch and scuff due to the anodized aluminum which Apple use as part of the manufacturing process to assist in making the handset lighter and thinner than ever before. A number of cases have emerged that showcase just how susceptible the device is to general wear and tear, an issue that seems to be a lot more prominent with the black variant of the iPhone 5. It isn’t ideal to purchase a case to combat this physical damage but it seems to be the best secondary option.
Apple has been testing the cases internally and decided which ones are right for them to provide in their own stores. The majority of the cases that will actually go live later this month will more than likely already be available through the retailer’s own sales channels, but we all know that a lot of consumers prefer to buy accessories directly from Apple as it provides peace of mind. We can only assume that the company’s online store will also be updated at some point to offer the new iPhone 5 accessories, but we shall have to wait and see for confirmation.
