There’s A JailbreakMe-Like Jailbreak For iOS 9.1 / 9.2, But You Can’t Have It

As has always been the case, staying one step ahead of Apple as far as jailbreaking iOS is concerned is never going to be easy. When iOS 9.1 arrived not too long ago, Apple closed the loophole that made it possible for jailbreakers to enjoy the likes of Cydia on their iPhones and iPads, meaning the race to get a new jailbreak ready for the most recent version of iOS was on. We now know that a jailbreak for iOS 9.1 and indeed the latest beta build of iOS 9.2 is possible, but we just won’t be seeing it released to public.

In a post to Twitter today, Zerodium announced that its ongoing $1 million bounty for the sharing of a hack that would open the most modern versions of iOS had been claimed, and in some style too. The hack, the details of which are very scarce indeed, not only jailbreaks iOS 9.1 and the latest beta build of iOS 9.2, but it even does it via a web browser, JailbreakMe style, and doesn’t need the device to be tethered to a computer in order to boot up. That’s quite the exploit.

Zerodium, in exchange for its $1 million, now has its iOS exploit and they will likely never be sharing any more information about something that has cost it quite the tidy sum of money. Neither will they ever make it public in the form of a jailbreak tool. Quite what the hack will be used for is unclear, but it does not mean that others are not working to make iOS 9.1 and iOS 9.2 jailbreakable, even if the hack turns out to be less elegant than the one that cost Zerodium a cool million dollars.

But when you’re giving your jailbreak away for free, you can’t really be faulted for it lacking some of the bells an whistle of one costing $1 million now, can you?

If you’re on iOS 9.0.2 and haven’t jailbroken yet, you can do so now using Pangu 9 jailbreak which is available on both Windows and Mac, and supports iOS 9.0, 9.0.1 and 9.0.2 for jailbreak:
