The Very First 13-Inch MacBook Pro With Retina Display Is Now Classed As Obsolete

Apple’s first 13-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display. launched in 2012, has now been added to the company’s list of products that it considers obsolete.

First noted by MacRumors, the move follows a similar one that saw the 15-inch version become obsolete in July of last year.

This is how Apple describes a product that has been classed as obsolete.

Obsolete products are those whose sales were discontinued more than 7 years ago. Monster-branded Beats products are considered obsolete regardless of when they were purchased. Apple discontinues all hardware service for obsolete products, with no exceptions. Service providers cannot order parts for obsolete products.

The 2012 13-inch MacBook Pro not only shipped with the first Retina display but also featured flash storage as well as upgraded Intel processors for those who needed a machine with a little more power. The product was popular and led the way for the rest of the Retina display notebooks that we all take for granted in 2021.

If you’re using a 2012 MacBook Pro you won’t notice any change unless you need to get it repaired. At this point, nine years after it was introduced, it’s probably time you put that thing out to pasture and upgraded to something with an Apple M1 chip inside. You’ll certainly notice a performance improvement!
