Apple’s two major operating systems – OS X and iOS – each have their distinct advantages, and in an attempt to pick the fruits of the mobile, touch-friendly iOS, Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion included many features we’d become accustomed to on the iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch. That’s great if you’ve always wanted iOS features at desktop level, but what about the other way around? Have you ever fired up your iPad and longed for the OS X Dock, Finder or a fully-featured Safari? Well thanks to the upcoming Modbook Pro which we’ve covered earlier, you’ll be allowed to enjoy all of Mountain Lion’s features right from your tablet.

Although I firmly believe both OSes are well suited and adapted to their respective devices, there are times where I’ve wished my iPad or tablet were running OS X. If you’ve always been swayed by the thought of running a Mac on a tablet, then the Modbook Pro will certainly be of interest to you, and as of October 3rd, you’ll be able to pre-order your very own.

The slate is a whopping 13.3-inches in size, and for an idea as to how this compares with current tablets, the Apple iPad’s display measures in at 9.7-inches. That’s a lot of screen real-estate to play around with, and is the same size display as the largest of the two MacBook Air models. That said, the specs are a closer representation of the Pro end of the spectrum, which makes sense given the Modbook is a torn-down and reworked MacBook Pro made to function just as a slate would.

Given the parts are from a MacBook Pro, the specs are as good as you could ever dream of from a tablet. You can enjoy a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 processor, or a 2.9GHz Intel Core i7 processor, both of which come with 2GB of RAM, 64GB SSD (up to 480GB if you want to pay for it), and Intel HD 4000 graphics.

The Modbook Pro uses a built-in stylus from which to interact, and although it doesn’t offer quite the slickness of the iPad, it’s certainly fairly slick for the hardware it manages to retain.

Want one? Modbook.com will begin taking preorders on October 3rd, so if you like your MacBooks in tablet form, this is your perfect purchase.
