There have been rumors of Tesla working on a revised version of the Model 3 hatchback for months at this point, and the car is absolutely due for some TLC.
The current model has remained unchanged since it arrived in 2017. Now, it looks like the refreshed look is closer than ever.
The new model is thought to be the result of Tesla’s Highland program, with the result being a next-gen version of the vehicle that is perhaps the one that most people have become familiar with in recent years.
Now, Tesla has pushed Model 3 orders and delivery times across Europe beyond October, meaning that those buying cars today can expect delivery in the final quarter of 2023. It’s been suggested that the reason for the delay is to allow Tesla to change its production lines to build the new, refreshed version of the Model 3.
As Electrek notes, Tesla had already warned that upgrades to factories could require them to shut down temporarily.
In Europe, Tesla sells Model 3 vehicles produced at Gigafactory Shanghai in China. Last month, Tesla warned that it would perform “global factory upgrades” that would result in temporary production shutdowns; those upgrades have been rumored to be linked to the new Model 3.
In China, there are rumors that Tesla is planning to switch over production to the new Model 3 in the coming weeks
However, those buying a Model 3 in the United States are still seeing short delivery times for new vehicles, suggesting that the change to the refreshed Highland version is not as near as the one internationally.
In terms of changes, there are slight design improvements to the front and back of the car as well as upgrades to the in-car computer.
