While Apple’s new M2 iPad Pro apparently supports recording ProRes video, it can’t do it without a little help.
Apple announced the new iPad Pro last week and confirmed that it would include support for ProRes video capture.
But that was as far as it went and now it’s been reported that the Camera app built into every iPad Pro can’t actually record ProRes video at all. Those who install a third-party app like FiLMiC Pro do find that the feature works, however.
The news was first reported by MacOtakara and MacRumors, but it isn’t yet clear whether this is a bug or if the iPad Pro is behaving exactly as Apple expected it to.
If this is indeed a bug then we can expect Apple to release a software update that will address it, although the company is yet to confirm whether that’s the case. MacRumors says it has reached out to Apple for comment, but none has been forthcoming.
If this is a bug then we might expect a fix to be rolled into the iPadOS 16.2 update. That release is already being tested by developers as well as those who are on the public beta program, but it’s likely weeks away from release. Apple could also release an update more quickly however, specifically to fix this issue.
