The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to be announced later this year, and it looks increasingly likely that it will be the first to offer support for 8K video recording.
The lack of 8K video recording on even Apple’s highest-end iPhones has been something of a surprise, but a new leak claims that will change when the iPhone 17 series arrives.
9to5Mac reports that leaker Fixed Focus Digital believes that 8K support is on the horizon. This leaker is a relatively new one but was able to correctly predict the launch of the Desert Titanium color as well as the naming of the recently-released iPhone 16e. That means that while we should take this news with a pinch of salt, it’s well worth paying attention to.
According to a translation from Chinese, the leaker said that “With 8K in hand, you should look forward to the iPhone 17 series,” 9to5Mac reports.
It isn’t yet clear whether that means that the entire iPhone 17 lineup will support the ultra-high resolution video recording, or if it will be limited to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max.
If Apple sticks to its tried and tested release schedule, we can expect it to announce and release the entire iPhone 17 lineup this September. The launch will likely happen alongside new Apple Watch models as well as a raft of software updates.
