24If you’re considering buying the iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 16 Pro Max later this year you can possibly look forward to an improvement that has so far been lacking — faster charging options.
According to a new report, Apple will increase the wired charging speed to 40W when the iPhone 16 Pro family of devices ships this coming September, while the wireless charging speeds will also increase to 20W.
To put that into perspective, the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro top out at 27W when using wired charging and 15W when using MagSafe or Qi2 wireless chargers.
As MacRumors reports, Chinese rumors shared by ITHome suggest that there will be an increase in charging speeds this time out. The current speeds see an iPhone 15 series device charge to 50% in around 30 minutes when using a 20W or greater USB-C charger.
An increase in charging speed would no doubt be well received by potential iPhone 16 Pro buyers but these figures are still much slower than the best that Android has to o-241ffer. With some phones charging at up to 200W — faster than even a 16-inch MacBook Pro — the world of Android devices has long had the upper hand when it comes to charging quickly.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro handsets this coming September, likely alongside the Apple Watch X and a new replacement for the Apple Watch Ultra 2.
